Starting from the galaxy, the Sun, to the nebula

Many things happened during 2020. Not only on Earth, but also in outer space. Astronomers and scientists from NASA, ESA, ESO, the Hubble Space Telescope, and various other institutions have captured lots of amazing photos from out there. that way, we as ordinary people can get to know this universe more deeply.

From the hundreds to even thousands of photos captured this year, some of them are so iconic and popular. Want to know what the portraits of space will look like throughout 2020? Come on, take a peek!

1. A close-up of the sun's black spots

Scientists working at the Inouye Solar Telescope managed to capture very detailed images of the sun's blackspots. The lines you can see are a mixture of hot and cold gas formed by a strong magnetic field. according to a National Science Foundation report, these spots are so large that Earth can fit into them.

2.Galaxies "waterfalls"

Looking like a waterfall, the portrait above turns out to be a picture of two galaxies, NGC 2799 (left) and NGC 2798. What actually happens is that the two galaxies are close enough to attract each other under their gravity. The hubble Space Telescope predicts that they are likely to unite.

3. A close-up of Jupiter's surface

If you live on Jupiter, storms are something you will encounter on a daily basis. because, these events occur all the time in almost all parts of the planet. Because of the size of the storm, you can see the irregular texture on Jupiter's surface as in the image above.

4. Eagle Nebula

NASA / ESA / Hubble Space Telescope

In celebration of its 30th birthday, the Hubble Space Telescope has released the most iconic photo of the year. It is visible from the Eagle Nebula. Hubble used a sophisticated telescope called Gemini South to get detailed and perfect photos.

5. Looks original Saturn

Even though it looks like an unreal image, the photo above is actually a true appearance of Saturn, you know. Astronomers from NASA, ESA, and the Hubble Space Telescope who captured it last August. From the poles to the rings, everything seems very clear, huh.

6. The Sun's Surface

At first glance it looks like caramel popcorn, the photo above is a close-up of the Sun's surface taken by the Daniel K Inouye Solar Telescope. This discovery surprised many people. Because, so far we have assumed that the Sun is covered in burning flames.

7. Butterfly Nebula

The nebula is a celestial body with a variety of shapes. One of them is NGC 6302 ..he was nicknamed the Butterfly Nebula because the dust clouds looked like butterfly wings. Photographed by NASA, this one nebula is 3,800 light years from Earth.

8. Earth and aurora

captured from the International Space Station, this is a view of the Earth's surface from outer space. The greenish light that lights up is the aurora, the light emitted from the ionosphere that usually occurs in polar regions. Meanwhile, the faint orange layer that covers the Earth is known as airglow.

9. The Milky Way Galaxy

M. Zamani / ESO via space.com

Using a fisheye lens, ESO astronomer Mahdi Zamani managed to capture the curvature of the Milky Way galaxy in Chile. This sight is quite rare and is not present anywhere, you know. galaxies can only be seen when the sky is clear and dark in a pollution-free area.

Those are the nine best space portraits that were captured in 2020. Which one is your favorite?
